2 Timothy 1:7: “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
---
Hello, it’s Vic Johnson and this is your Monday Morning Spirit Spark.
There’s a moment in the Gospels where Peter does something the other disciples didn’t dare to do. He stepped out of the boat and walked on water toward Jesus.
It wasn’t a perfect walk.
He looked at the waves.
He got scared.
He started to sink.
But here’s the part we forget: he actually walked on water.
And the other disciples? They stayed in the boat.
Boldness isn’t about being fearless. It’s about stepping out in spite of fear. And today’s verse — 2 Timothy 1:7 — reminds us that fear is not from God. What He’s given us instead is power, love, and a sound mind.
That means if fear is holding you back — fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of not being enough — it’s not from Him.
God is not in the business of shrinking souls. He’s in the business of calling people out of comfort zones.
What has He been nudging you to do lately?
Start something? Speak up? Step out in faith?
If it requires boldness, there’s a good chance God is in it.
You weren’t given a timid spirit. You were given power to act, love to motivate, and self-control to stay grounded when the storm hits.
Just like Peter, you may not get it perfectly right.
But that’s not the goal.
The goal is to keep your eyes on Jesus and take the step.
Here’s a bold prayer to begin your week:
> “Lord, I know You haven’t given me a spirit of fear. Help me to trust You more than I fear failure. Give me boldness to do the things You’ve called me to do — even if they scare me. I don’t want to stay in the boat when You’re calling me to walk.”
That’s your Spirit Spark for today:
God doesn’t call the bold — He makes bold those who answer His call.
And that’s worth waking up for.
