Gratitude Changes Everything

1

1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

---

Hello, it’s Vic Johnson and this is your Monday Morning Spirit Spark.

It’s easy to be thankful when life feels good. When the sun’s shining, your plans are working, and people are kind — it feels natural to say, “Thank You, Lord.”

But Paul takes it a step further. He writes: “Give thanks in all circumstances.”

Not for all things, but in all things.

That means when things don’t go your way…

When doors close…

When prayers feel unanswered…

When you’re walking through the valley instead of dancing on the mountain —

You can still give thanks.

Why?

Because gratitude isn’t based on how we feel.

It’s based on who God is — and He doesn’t change with the weather.

Gratitude shifts your focus.

It stops you from spiraling into what’s missing and helps you anchor in what’s already been given. It turns your attention from what’s wrong to what’s still good… and there’s always something good.

Psychologists say gratitude rewires your brain.

Scripture says it renews your heart.

And God says it’s His will for your life.

So this Monday, start your week not by asking what needs to be fixed, but by thanking God for what’s already right. The breath in your lungs. The people who love you. The second chances you didn’t deserve. The presence of a God who never leaves.

You don’t need a reason to be grateful.

Gratitude is the reason.

Try this prayer today:

> “Lord, thank You — for all that You’ve done, for all that You’ve given, and even for what I don’t yet understand. Teach me to see the good in every situation. Fill my heart with thanksgiving — not just today, but every day.”

That’s your Spirit Spark for today:

Gratitude won’t always change your situation, but it will always change your perspective.

And that’s worth waking up for.
